The knowledge

The Bachelor of Science degree program in Business & Economics provides you with the conceptual foundations, the analytical tools and applied techniques, and the practical understanding through extensive business case studies across the whole range of subjects necessary for successful management and effective, responsible leadership in today’s globally integrated and globally competitive economic environment. Students can follow one of four Major Concentrations:

The abilities

Having successfully completed your required business subjects you will be able to:

  • Apply the four functions of management (planning, organizing, leading, and controlling) to local organizations in a global context of cultural diversity
  • Demonstrate the leadership skills needed to formulate and implement innovation strategies during turbulent times and disruptive technologies
  • Evaluate investment alternatives and manage complex financial risk
  • Apply appropriate planning and forecasting tools and techniques of analysis in finance, accounting, marketing, supply chain, and strategic management
  • Identify and resolve business related ethical issues in a global environment
  • Demonstrate knowledge of competitive advantage, core competencies, internal strengths and weaknesses, external opportunities and threats.

Depending to some extent on your Major Concentration, the jobs for which you qualify include:

  • From Finance & Banking to loan officer, investment analyst, corporate finance associate, accounting controllership, treasury manager
  • From Marketing & Supply Chain Management to jobs in advertising, market research, product development, brand management, sales and operations
  • From Global Business & Management to international corporate functional management and management consulting, human relations officer, strategic planning officer, department and divisional general manager
  • From Economics & Development to public sector planning jobs in national, provincial, and local government, non-government international aid organizations, international banking, and academia.
